Dating back to the 16th century, The Merry Harriers is a Grade II listed heritage pub that Hutley & Humm carefully reimagined as a colour-drenched country escape. The designers stripped back the interiors to their bones, retrofitting the building to allow original features such as the heavy oak beams, centuries-old doors and imposing inglenook fireplace to take centre stage.

Richly pigmented colours create atmosphere throughout: an earthy green dining room wrapped in “Botanist” by Paint & Paper Library with pew-inspired seating, the ruby-red “Record Room” for intimate dinners, and the golden ochre parlour with its velvet drapes for private gatherings. Each space feels distinct yet connected, offering moments of elegant charm, depth and warmth while retaining the relaxed informality of a true pub.

Upstairs, four en-suite bedrooms continue the story in tonal schemes of deep burgundy, sand, botanist green and ochre. Bespoke headboards, tone-on-tone linens, antique side tables and flatweave rugs layered over hardwearing sisal create a luxurious yet practical atmosphere for guests. With craftsmanship at its heart, from the bespoke timber bar by Joss Stoddart to the custom furnishings, The Merry Harriers balances history with contemporary design, transforming a village landmark into a welcoming destination just an hour from the city.
